Casting call: The Velveteen Rabbit
Quirk Theatre are looking for 3 Exeter/ South West based performers and performer/musicians of any gender, aged 18+, to join the ensemble for their new ACE funded, family Christmas production- an adaptation of The Velveteen Rabbit.
We’re looking for good ensemble players with a healthy sense of the ridiculous, able to multi-role in a fast-paced and playful environment, willing to generate ideas in the rehearsal room and contribute to the creation of the show. Must be able to improvise and be comfortable with audience participation. Puppetry experience is an advantage.
A strong singing voice is also desirable but not essential.
Please notify us if you play any instruments.
** Quirk are committed to diverse casting, so welcome applications from all performers. Please let us know if you have any access needs in order to attend an audition. **
About Quirk Theatre
Quirk Theatre are headed into their 17th year of producing a family Christmas show at Exeter Phoenix, and more recently at The Plough Arts Centre in Torrington. Witty, playful and often anarchic, Quirk pride themselves on devising original work with a social conscience, offering a meaningful alternative to pantomime.
About the production
Alice knows what she’s going to get for Christmas this year (and EVERY year) because it’s always, always, always the same:
Socks from Granny Margie, hankies from Uncle Graham, fluffy pyjamas from the Jones cousins and bath smellies from Aunt Betty. And this year, to make matters worse, a parcel has arrived from a long lost relative and inside is a ratty old rabbit toy. Of course, Alice isn’t complaining. Presents are great (obvs). But Alice is growing up and sometimes she feels that her family hasn’t noticed.
Join Alice and the Velveteen Rabbit on a heart warming adventure as they explore what it means to love and be loved. A magical portrayal of growing up, moving on and not letting go by Quirk Theatre, full of heart, hilarity and a sprinkling of the miraculous.
£481 per week or £100 for individual days worked.
